Bespoke venue booking systems in Northern Ireland

Laganview Golf Centre: proof first

Lisburn, and Northern Ireland's largest golf venue.

This page is about venues that sell time and space. For the parts every system shares, see how we build booking systems.

Case study

Laganview Golf Centre

A bay booking system and website, in Lisburn

Laganview runs 50 floodlit bays, 12 social bays and a VIP suite. We built its bay booking system and website in Vue.js and Laravel, with Dojo card payments, gift cards and automatic PDF confirmations.

50Floodlit bays, booked online
11,100+Paid bay bookings since December 2023
3,800+Customer accounts

Site visits rose 48% from December to June after the relaunch.

Both Kyle and Luke took the time to listen to our requirements and provided valuable insights throughout the development process. The end result exceeded our expectations, providing a seamless and efficient booking experience for our customers while streamlining our operations. This is demonstrated through the increase of bookings we've received since launching our new website.

Built for venues that sell time and space

Each kind of venue has its own awkward rules.

03Tours and attractions

Timed departures, capacity per slot and group bookings.

04Private hire

Function rooms and suites with deposits, minimum spends and enquiry routes.

05Studios

Recording, dance, photography or fitness, booked by the hour with minimum durations.

06Sports facilities

Build or subscribe: the honest answer

Including when the answer is to subscribe.

At low volume, subscribe. When the rules or the volume are yours alone, build.

When off-the-shelf is the right call

Venue booking software is a mature market. BookMyBays publishes a price of £30 a month for an activity venue's first two spaces with no commission on bookings, and CourtOS publishes plans for sports venues from £79 a month plus VAT (published prices, checked 4 November 2026).

For a small venue that is usually the right answer, and it is what we would tell you. At around 20 bookings a week, our advice is to build nothing.

Build

When building is worth it

A bespoke system starts to make sense when your rules are your own: sessions limited by staff or equipment, private hire with deposits, memberships that change the price, gift cards, or a payment provider you already use.

It also matters who holds your customer accounts and booking history if you ever leave a platform.

Where a platform charges commission, the maths moves quickly.

£13,000A year, roughly: 200 bookings a week at £25 on a 5% commission
£26,000A year: 400 bookings a week, on the same terms

The tools above charge a flat monthly fee rather than commission, so against them the case for building is fit, rules and ownership, not cost. The full working is in what an online booking system costs in Northern Ireland.

Driving ranges and golf centres

Where we started, and still the clearest example.

A small range

BookMyBays publishes £30 a month for up to 10 range bays, with no commission on ordinary bookings, card fees paid to Stripe and a 14-day free trial (published price, checked 4 November 2026). For many small ranges that is the right answer.

Build

A range with its own rules

Build when you have social bays, a VIP suite, memberships that change the price, gift cards or a card provider you already use. That is what Laganview had, and its card payments run through Dojo.

Guides and hospitality venues

Sometimes the right booking route is an enquiry form, or the engine a venue already runs.

Tour Guides NI

Booking enquiries for accredited guides

Every guide's profile carries a booking enquiry form. A visitor picks a date and describes the tour they want, and the request goes to that guide and to head office.

Haymarket Belfast

Six venues, each with its own booking route

Tables book through ResDiary and activities through Roller, from each venue's own pages. Private rooms, group events and corporate days have their own enquiry routes.

What every venue system needs

The awkward rules are the reason to build.

01Live availability

What is free right now, on a phone.

02Your own pricing rules

Peak and off-peak, minimum durations, buffers and cut-offs.

03Deposits or full payment

With the refund and cancellation rules you set.

04Gift cards and memberships

Sold, redeemed and applied in the same system.

05Confirmations

Sent automatically, so staff are not chasing them.

06Staff admin and reporting

A back office shaped around how you run.

No double bookings, ever

Two people can press book on the same slot in the same second.

The database decides who gets it, not the interface: each booking locks the slot while it is taken, so one person gets it and the other is told it has just gone.

Payments through your provider

Card deposits or payment in full, through Stripe or the provider your venue already uses.

Laganview's card payments run through Dojo.

07

Cost and timeline, agreed up front

A fixed quote, against a written scope.

Every venue gets its own fixed quote, agreed before work starts.

Before anything startsA fixed quote

You get the approach, what is in, what is out, a timeline and a fixed price in writing.

TimelineAbout 4 to 8 weeks

A golf or leisure booking system typically takes about 4 to 8 weeks to build.

AfterwardsLooking after it

A maintenance plan covers updates, backups and small changes, priced separately so you can see the ongoing commitment.

Our studio is in Holywood, about 10 minutes from Belfast city centre. For booking systems outside venues, such as appointments and services, see our booking systems page.

Should a venue build its own booking system or use off-the-shelf software?

For a small venue, off-the-shelf booking software is usually the right answer. At around 20 bookings a week, our advice is to build nothing. A bespoke system makes sense when your rules are your own, such as bays, sessions with staff or equipment limits, private hire, memberships that change the price or gift cards, or when you are paying commission on high volume.

What can a bespoke venue booking system handle that off-the-shelf software cannot?

Whatever your venue actually sells. Bays priced differently from each other, sessions capped by staff or equipment, minimum durations, buffers and cut-offs, deposits, private hire and group bookings can all follow your rules rather than a template's.

How much does a bespoke venue booking system cost in Northern Ireland?

Every venue gets its own fixed quote, based on a written scope and agreed before work starts. You know the price before any money changes hands.

How long does a venue booking system take to build?

A golf or leisure booking system typically takes about 4 to 8 weeks to build, once the scope and the fixed quote are agreed.

How do you stop two people booking the same slot?

The database decides, not the interface. Each booking locks the slot while it is being taken, so if two people press book at the same moment, one gets it and the other is told it has just gone.

Can it use our existing payment provider?

Yes. Payments can run through Stripe or the provider your venue already uses. Laganview's card payments run through Dojo.

Who owns the customer data?

You do. The customer accounts, the booking history, the code, the database, the domain and the hosting are all in your name, so nothing is lost if you move on.

Has a venue in Northern Ireland built its own booking system?

Yes. Laganview Golf Centre in Lisburn runs a bespoke bay booking system built by Element Seven for its 50 floodlit bays. Since December 2023 it has taken more than 11,100 confirmed and paid bay bookings, and over 3,800 customers have created accounts.
